Food & dining

Door County has some fantastic restaurants. During the summer, everybody and their brother offers a "Door County fish boil." That means that you go out on the patio and dump some whitefish and potatoes, onions, etc., etc., in a big vat and boil it while all the gullible tourists watch. It's like watching grass grow until they burn off the oil, which goes up in flames. Anyway, some people claim it is really good to eat. These people (like Marilyn and Al) report that the best place to get the famous fish boil is The White Gull Inn (see below).

Even Door Co.'s upscale restaurants are pretty casual (khakis, etc.). Here are a few favorites:

Trio (Egg Harbor)
920/868-2090
Casual, reasonable, "northern and southern Italian pastas and classic country French cuisine." Great food! Get there early; they don't take reservations. Dinner only.

White Gull Inn (Fish Creek)
www.whitegullinn.com · 920/868-3517
Traditional food in a cozy inn. Very popular. Many nights in the summer they only offer the fish boil (see description at the top of this page). Open breakfast, lunch and dinner (make dinner reservations).

The Inn at Kristofer's (Sister Bay)
www.innatkristofers.com · 920/854-9419
This is a fantastic upscale restaurant with a view of the sunsets over the water; it's Kim's favorite in all of Door Co. "Features Midwestern dishes inspired by French culinary traditions." Make reservations. Dinner only.

Mission Grill (Sister Bay)
920/854-9070
Great food and setting (an old church and a beautiful outdoor patio). A little pricey. Lunch and dinner.

Al Johnson's Swedish Restaurant (Sister Bay)
I'm not sure there's anything special about this food (the wait is always super long, and it's overpriced!), but most people have to go here to take pictures of the goats on the roof. If you really want good Swedish food, go to…

Sister Bay Café
www.solbjorg.com · 920/854-2429
Across the street from Al Johnson's. Famous for their Swedish meatballs, and don't miss the lefse, of course! Breakfast, lunch and dinner.

T. Ashwells (Ellison Bay)

default.htm
· 920/854-4306
Upscale dining in a neat old house; many tables are on the screened-in porch. Dinner only. Make reservations.

Not Licked Yet
This is the best frozen custard around, and the butter pecan is to die for. It’s in Fish Creek.

P.C. Junction
This is Brad and Alex’s favorite restaurant in Door Co., because if you get there early enough, you get to sit in the seats where your food is delivered to you on a train. (It’s burgers, chili, etc.) On the corner of highways A and E.

Dough Exchange
This bakery (by the parking lot for the Main Street Market in Egg Harbor) has great doughnuts. The bakery inside the Main Street Market also has good doughnuts.

Main Street Market
This grocery store in Egg Harbor has a surprisingly good selection of everything, including wine.
